Joel Henderson is up for any challenge, especially when it's associated with a charitable cause. Henderson, the vice president of corporate communications and government relations for North American Credit Services and Medical Services Inc. in Chattanooga, Tenn., is one of eight local professionals who will be competing in the eighth annual Dancing with the Chattanooga Stars on June 20.
The competition is a fundraiser for Partnership for Families, Children and Adults, a nonprofit human services agency based in Chattanooga.
"I've stepped up to help with many a cause in my life, however, dancing is definitely a new challenge with a big learning curve," Henderson said. "Hopefully I will proudly represent my organization and make a difference in supporting the Partnership's powerful mission in helping others succeed."
Each local competition participant is paired with a professional instructor from Dance Tonight Chattanooga. Henderson is practicing with Rosie Bird. "Dancing is truly about having fun and to enjoy the experience," she said. "I've started Joel off with some basic dance steps and he's been learning pretty quickly. He's a natural leader."
Dancing with the Chattanooga Stars is about more than showcasing great dance moves, however. The event will raise awareness and money for the community-based programs provided by Partnership for Families, Children and Adults. The charity's mission is to strengthen vulnerable families and individuals.
Henderson chose to donate to the Family Focused Solutions programs within Partnership's offerings.
"I remain a firm believer that people are in need of a hand up versus a hand out to successfully become self-sufficient," Henderson said.
Dancing with the Chattanooga Stars will take place on June 20 at the Tivoli Theatre in Chattanooga. More information about Henderson's participation and donating to the cause is available here.
